Boys & Girls Clubs of Portland to Assume Operations of the Police Activities League Youth Center in East County
Youth organization continues service in Rockwood neighborhood

PORTLAND, OR – The Boys & Girls Clubs of Portland Metropolitan Area and the Police Activities League (PAL) announced the Boys and Girls Clubs of Portland will be assuming management of the Eastside PAL Club as of March 1, 2013

“We have worked hard with the PAL organization to create a seamless transition for the kids in East County so that they’ll continue to have their Club,” said Boys & Girls Club Board Chair, Erik Krieger. “We have great respect for the history and good work of PAL and look forward to continuing their legacy moving forward”.

“We are grateful that we’re in a position to be able to step in and provide continued service to the kids in East County,” added Boys & Girls Clubs of Portland CEO, Erin Hubert. “PAL has such a strong heritage in Portland, and we hope to continue their good work in this neighborhood and retain as many of the Club staff as possible. We anticipate mounting a capital campaign in the near future to build a brand new, state of the art Club that is so greatly needed in East County.

“PAL is very excited to have reached this agreement with an organization that shares our values”, said Mark McGinnis, Police Activities League Board Chair. “The Boys & Girls Clubs’ commitment to serving the community is consistent with our mission, and we look forward to their carrying on PAL’s work of providing opportunities for law enforcement and youth to have positive, meaningful interaction through the Clubs. We hope, and anticipate, that all of our great volunteers, supporters and families will continue to share in strengthening the relationship between kids, cops, and the community”.

While it’s anticipated the East side youth center will remain open with normal programming during the transition, there could be a few days where the Club is closed while details are finalized. Additionally, Boys & Girls Clubs will be working on finding a temporary Club for the kids during the construction of a new Club.

The Beaverton PAL Youth Center will become its own stand alone organization and will continue serving youth with much appreciated assistance from both the City of Beaverton and the Beaverton Police Department.”
As of 1:00 pm on Thursday, February 28, 2013,
the PAL of Portland Administrative Office will be closed.
